Have you just finished the final version of your ebook and now you are looking for the best ebook creation software? You are in the right place.

But before we dive in, here’s a quick rundown of the formats you can use for your ebook: PDF (cheapest and easiest), EPUB (most widely used), and Mobi or AZW for Kindle.

Now, let’s discuss the best ebook creation tools for budding authors like you.

Export eBooks from MS Word to PDF or XPS file

MS Word is one of the most common writing and editing tools, which you probably already own if you use a Windows PC. otherwise, you can buy it from the Microsoft store.

This is one of the easiest ways to create an ebook. All you need to do is select the eBook template, write your draft, and do the formatting and design. Once done, you can export it to PDF or XPS format.

Download an ebook in several formats from G-doc

Just like MS Word, Google Docs is a widely recognized document editor for PC and Mac users. You can access it online and use it to create your ebook. Once you are done, you can download the ebook in PDF or EPUB format.

Visme ebook creator page

If you want to make your ebook a bit more presentable and reduce design hassles, you can opt for Visme. It’s quite simple to use. All you have to do is go to the dashboard and select Create your e-book. It will show you several ready-made templates that you can use and you can also customize them.

USE VIDEO OF THE DAY

The platform allows you to create, design and share your ebook online with a Visme link or download it for free in JPG format. If your ebook is visual only – for example, a magazine or an image-only project – then you can opt for the JPG option. However, if you want to download it in PDF, PNG, PPTX, HTML or mp4 formats, you will have to pay the monthly subscription.

Designerr ebook authoring tool home page

Another great tool you can use is Designrr. It lets you import content directly from an MS Word document, PDF, and even your website, to create an ebook. But you can also create one from scratch if you want.

The software offers several templates for designing an e-book that you can customize, such as adding the author or company name, page titles, and other text and images. Also, if you are designing an ebook for the first time and end up making bad edits, you can use its Roll back changes option.

You can also add a call to action and a 3D cover to your ebook, but the tool is not available for free. If you want to use Designrr to create your ebook, you will need to pay for its monthly subscription.

Sigil ebook authoring tool homepage

Sigil-Ebook allows you to create your ebooks in EPUB format. To get started, you’ll need to import your Word document into it. There’s a bit of a learning curve, though. The software cannot read files in .doc or .docx formats, it only reads them in HTML, EPUN and .TXT format. It allows you to see your document in two different modes: editor view and code view.

If you don’t want to go into coding details, you can simply save your Word document to a regular .TXT file before uploading it to Sigil. This will prevent him from messing with your ebook because of unnecessary codes. Since you saved your document in standard .TXT format, you may need to repeat the formatting.

FlipBuilder ebook authoring tool home page

If you want to create an ebook, where readers can turn the pages, FlipBuilder is the tool for you. It allows you to convert your PDFs into Flipbooks. To get started, import your PDF, select the design and hide. The platform also lets you make your ebooks interactive, which means you can add different buttons, links, or a call to action to them.

But it is not available for free, you will need to purchase its subscription to convert your PDFs to Flipbooks. However, you can convert your PDFs to other formats such as EPUB, Flash, Word, PPT, JPG, etc. for free from this page.

Blurb ebook authoring tool home page

Blurb is a platform that helps you design, create and self-publish your ebook, which you can even sell in print. It offers two different options.

One of them is to convert your PDFs to ebook just like other platforms. Although there is a minimum page requirement; you can only convert a PDF to an ebook if it has at least 22 pages.

Another option is to download its free tool Author. It can help you design an ebook that you can also publish in print. However, once you download the free tool, you will need to purchase the designs, templates, or type of pages you want in your book.

Adobe indesign ebook authoring tool home page

Adobe InDesign is another great e-book design tool. It works on a subscription basis, but you can get a seven-day free trial. The tool can help you design your ebook with heavy texts and images and download it in EPUB format.

If your entire book is ready and you already have a design in mind, you can take advantage of its trial period to create your ebook for free.

Customize an eBook with Canva

Canva is a free graphic design tool. It allows you to create your ebooks from scratch with texts and images and download them in PDF format. The features are easy to use and offer several templates, most of which are free.

You can play around with ebook cover designs, templates, and how you need text and images in the final version. If you write non-fiction, you can also use dashboard items to display charts, statistics, and more.

Moreover, in addition to PDF, Canva also allows you to download your ebook in mp4 and JPG formats for free. You will only have to pay for the premium designs or elements that you used when creating your book.
