Bridgerton season two is based on Julia Quinn’s second novel Bridgerton series, and so fans of the novels might have thought they had a good idea of what to expect from the new installments of the hit period drama. Kate and Edwina’s Legacy
In the novels, Kate and Edwina join the ton for a season from Somerset, while in the TV show the couple traveled from India for the season, where Kate plans to return to work as a governess after finding Edwina a suitable husband. Speaking about her character, Simone Ashley previously said Tatler: “Kate is from India but what I like is that nobody comments on that. You follow the journey of the character, not his legacy.”

The identity of Lady Whistledown
While in the novel Lady Whistledown’s true identity is still highly secret, in the TV show viewers now know who is producing the gossip column – and how she does it. Penelope Featherington’s struggles as her secret identity becomes harder to maintain is a key detail in season two, as it ends up causing trouble with her close friend, Eloise.
Anthony’s reasons for not falling in love
During the TV show, Anthony reveals that he is terrified of falling in love as he is traumatized by his mother’s reaction to his father’s death and never wants to be in a position where he could lose a loved one. . In the novel, he is determined not to fall in love as he is convinced he will die young after his father’s death and does not want to leave his wife bereft.

Edwina and Anthony’s failed marriage
While there is certainly talk of Edwina and Anthony getting married, they never get engaged, let alone make it to the altar! In fact, while Edwina loves Anthony, she is somewhat in love with another suitor, which works great when Kate and Anthony are forced to marry after getting caught up in what looks like a compromising situation after Kate was stung by a bee and Anthony tries to suck the sting out.

Eloise’s romance with Theo
Eloise gets a bigger character arc in season two, including a juicy romance with Theo, a young man who works at Lady Whistledown’s printer. The couple instantly fall in love with each other, but Eloise has no such romance in the book, with her chance of finding love in book five.
