Four IIT Roorkee professors featured in CII’s STEM Education eBook
Recently, the Confederation of Indian Industry – CII launched an eBook titled âWiSTEM-2021: Nurture and Celebrate Women in STEMâ, celebrating inspiring women who have made significant contributions in this field. CII Tamil Nadu and the Technology Development and Promotion Center have published this ebook which is a collection of 50 successful women in STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) education. It was a matter of pride for the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Roorkee as four of its professors were on the full list. The women professors have made a phenomenal contribution to their research on STEM with dedication. Their active participation in this field has proven to be exemplary in promoting and transforming the role of women in STEM subjects. Professor Ajit K Chaturvedi, Director of IIT Roorkee, said: âIt is a proud moment for us as four of our faculty members have been recognized in the e-book on successful Indian women in STEM disciplines. . I would like to congratulate CII for this initiative. It will encourage women from all walks of life to believe that their aspirations can be fulfilled if they can persevere in their efforts. “
Prof Davinder Kaur, Senior Professor in the Department of Physics and Center for Nanotechnology, Prof Debrupa Lahiri, Professor in the Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering and Center for Nanotechnology, Prof Kusum Deep, Senior Professor in the Department of Mathematics and Center for Artificial Intelligence and Data Science and Professor Pranita P. Sarangi, Professor in the Department of Biological Sciences and Bioengineering, are the four IIT Roorkee professors who are part of this collection. These professors have contributed immensely not only to scientific research, new product development, patents and research publications, but have inspired many students with their work to take STEM and engineering courses as a profession. All four have been actively involved in designing various programs specifically designed to encourage and focus on training women of great strength and caliber to explore their true potential by getting involved in STEM education. Such awards, accolades and recognitions will inspire many in the long run!
