This story is part of, our list of ideas, by theme, by recipient and by price, to help you discover the ideal gift.
One of the hardest parts of a holiday is making sure your gifts arrive on time.will be there before you know it, but an ebook is a thoughtful gift that requires no shipping. Amazon Kindle books are great last minute gifts as they are received and redeemed via email. You can even set up a Kindle book to arrive on a specific day, such as Christmas, so that the recipient of your gift will be surprised.
Kindle books work on all Amazon Fire and Kindle readers, and you can read them on phones, iPads, and other non-Amazon devices through the Kindle app, available on the Apple iOS and Google Android platforms. No matter what technology your friends and family are using, there’s a good chance they’ll be able to access and read their new Kindle book.
I am going to walk you through exactly how to send a Kindle eBook as a gift to your computer through the Amazon website.
Choose the Kindle eBook you want to send
Amazon has a huge eBook library with millions of books to choose from, so there’s a good chance that if you have a book in mind, Amazon is selling it in Kindle format. If you’re not sure which book to give away, try searching the usual “Books” section on Amazon where you’ll find curated lists that include the best books of the month, the best books of the year, and 100 books to read in a Duration of. life.
Clicking on a book displays all of the formats it is available in, such as hardcover and paperback. Choose Kindle Format. Often times, the Kindle edition is the cheapest way to buy the book.
The key step: buy the book for others
Once you click on Light up under formats and editions you should see a box with the price and the Buy Now button with one click. Don’t click on it!
Instead, choose the box just below that says Buy for others. This is where you choose how many copies of the book you want to gift. If you want your whole family or reading group to receive the same book, you can send each person an individual email with their own copy. Select the number of copies you would like to gift and click the yellow Buy for more button.
Enter the recipient’s email address and choose a date
If you are not signed in to Amazon, you will be prompted to do so and then taken to a page where you can enter the recipient’s email address and write them a short message. You can also email the book to yourself and forward it to someone else later, if that’s more convenient for you.
Then you can choose a specific delivery date, like Christmas, up to a year in advance. This feature is only available to those who donate a single copy of a book. Those looking to send multiple copies to different people cannot choose what time they are sent.
It’s also important to note that due to copyright issues, Kindle books can only be sent to people residing in the United States. If you accidentally send a book to someone in another country, they won’t be able to download the book, but may exchange it for an Amazon gift card for the amount you paid. US users who are not thrilled with the gift will also have the option of redeeming it for a gift card, so they can get something they prefer.
Send your gift
Once you’ve entered your recipient’s email address, composed your message, and set a delivery date, you’re ready to click Place your order button.
On the scheduled day, your recipient will receive an email from Amazon telling them that they have received a Kindle book from you. The email contains an image of the book cover, the message you wrote, and a button that says Accept this Kindle book. By pressing the button, they go to their Amazon account where they can see the full description of the book. Once they have logged in, they will be able to access the Accept the gift and download it to their Kindle library to read it.
You’ll be able to see if your recipient has downloaded their book by looking under your orders and heading to the Digital Orders tab. You will find the date the order was placed, the cost and its status. If the recipient downloaded the book, the order will say Claimed.
Note that the instructions above cover Kindle, but other companies sell eBooks as well. Typically, you will need a specific e-reader or app from that company to read the eBooks you have purchased. For example, you won’t be able to read a book from Apple Books on an Amazon Kindle and vice versa. Instead, you will need to read the book you purchased from Apple in the Books app on your Apple device.
