As the world seeks to navigate new adventures and opportunities in the wake of COVID-19, iconic Las Vegas gallerist and director Tony Carnevale has partnered with architectural photographer John Mastrogiacomo to design images and experiences capturing the attention of audiences around the world.
Carnevale led the project, working closely and in partnership, with Mastrogiacomo, and the duo have remained true visionaries and drivers throughout this series. The aim was to capture the scenery of the âEntertainment Capital of the Worldâ while it was stationary. In an effort to document these times, which are just as unique as the city itself, Carnevale and Mastrogiacomo have developed an eBook titled “Las Vegas Shutdown 2020”. The online publication is intended to capture the feeling of this unprecedented era for defenders of Las Vegas, while also attracting the desire to visit. In addition to sharing this fascinating communication with the world, Carnevale welcomes visitors to its Las Vegas galleries to experience first-hand the growth and resilience of our destination.
In the immediate wake of the shutdown, Carnevale and Mastrogiacomo moved into action very quickly, anticipating the impact the pandemic would have on Las Vegas. With this poignant information at their fingertips, Carnevale and Mastrogiacomore recognized the need to deliver compelling content without a tangible milestone. Subsequently, the âLas Vegas Shutdown 2020â e-book and limited edition art exhibit came to life. The images in the series of photographs are available in limited editions of only 20 copies.
Destination Las Vegas typically welcomes over 40 million visitors per year, with an economic impact of nearly $ 60 billion. The state of Nevada thrives on tourism and it is undoubtedly the lifeblood of our economy. The team recognized that drastic changes were on the horizon and took swift action to ensure that our valued visitors and staff are not harmed during these difficult times.
“We will never forget St. Patrick’s Day, March 17, 2020”. Carnevale remembers: âIn the early evening we were told about the closure and just after midnight we started to experience itâ.
Carnevale and Mastrogiacomo began realizing their project’s vision on March 18, 2020, the day after the shutdown. They identified locations and determined timelines that would accurately and creatively represent the environment in the city’s world-famous landscape. The collaboration yielded striking content, with examples including an intimate masked wedding ceremony by the iconic Bellagio fountains, empty casino floors devoid of their signature neon energy, the infamous Las Vegas Boulevard completely free of traffic and restaurants. “CLOSED” signs posted at places of worship throughout the destination commonly known as “Sin City”.
âFrom day one our energy level jumped into high gear because we knew what to come to us was unprecedented,â said Carnevale. âPhotographing and capturing the new landscape of our world remains a top priority in the defense of our community and our famous brand. “
The “Las Vegas Shutdown 2020” eBook is available on Amazon, Barnes and Noble, and Apple Books for an affordable price of $ 3.99.
Carnevale’s extensive collection of artwork, including images from ‘Las Vegas Shutdown 2020’ and beyond, is currently operating in two Las Vegas locations inside Appian Way at Caesars Palace Hotel & Casino and the Forum Shops at Caesars.
